José Luís Rodríguez Zapatero, President of Spain

Born in Valladolid on August 4, 1960. Degree in Law by the University of Leon. Member of the Spanish Socialists’ Party (PSOE) from 1979. Secretary General of the Socialist Federation of Leon (1988-2000). Secretary General of the PSOE and President of the Socialist Parliamentarian Group in the Chamber of Deputies (2000). Elected as Deputy in the National Parliament of the Spanish Socialists’ Party for Leon in 1986, 1989, 1993, 1996 and 2000. After the General Elections of March 14, 2004, he sworn in as President of the Government by H.M. the King on April 17, 2004.
